Peregrine Falcon
vs
Red-tailed Hawk

Wildlife photography is a practice in patience and persistence - and sometimes, just sometimes, you might be rewarded with an incredible few moments like those detailed below.

I really have no idea how many hundreds of hours I have spent watching these Peregrine Falcons - but much of the time is spent watching them sit - and sit some more.  Occasionally they might humor you with a preening session, just to give you a new pose.  And that's just what was happening on this day.

I was observing the Peregrine Falcon preening high on a cliff when I noticed the Hawk soaring above, minding its own business.  It was so high I initially didn't think much of it.  But as it began to circle, I decided it might be a good idea to keep an eye on the Hawk.  The Peregrine had the same idea and in a split second she exploded off of the cliff.  The chase was on!  The entire confrontation was over in a matter of seconds.  Click on the image below to see what transpired!
